Video Production
Creating a promotional video for your square dancing events or club helps get the word out in a form that people want to see. People actually prefer watching videos because it makes information easy to digest and remember. A good video you record and post will help promote and market your square dancing activity, event or club.
Videos are a fun and effective way to convey information, especially time-sensitive information you need people to easily grasp and commit to memory. There are many ways to create a promo video, but they all follow the same following steps. Click here or on the top image the PDF document.
What Makes a Good Promo Video?
1. Identify You Objective
Before you start, think about why you want to create the video. What is your objective. You may want to promote a special dance evening, a convention, a beginner’s program or simply provide information or just highlights of an event. Focus on the message!
Steps to Make a Promo Video
a. Script it out
b.Storyboard your vision
c. Produce your video
d. Promote your promo video on Social Media platforms including your Facebook, website, and YouTube Channel
2. Create an Emotion
What is the emotion you want to evoke in the viewer. This is particularly important when promoting square dancing. You want your viewer to be enthused, eager, and leave with a positive feeling when they have viewed your video.
3. The Quality
Ensure that the quality, colour and sound are optimal. Note that the quality, colour and sound on the video you produce will affect the way it is perceived, the emotions it evokes and ultimately, whether people return to your social media sites. Ensure the rule of thirds when compositing a video. It is a simple technique to apply to your video setup that will make a big difference with no extra effort. To apply this technique, mentally draw a tic-tac-toe board across your screen, like you see on the adjacent image.
4. Time of Video
Remember that the optimal video length is around 2 minutes. Beyond two minutes, there is a significant drop-off in engagement. A video should be a quick attention-grabbing trailer to highlight a promotion or event, so use upbeat background music, fast cuts in your edit, as well as catchy sound bites or titles and special video transitions/effects where appropriate.
5. Be Creative with your Content
Decide whether you have a voice over or use graphics to get your message to the audience. Add caption text to capture attention but above all be as short as possible and keep it simple.
A promotional video can be a huge asset to promoting square dancing, and if you haven’t considered making one before, you should attempt one. Your video should immediately convey its intended message/s and answer that “why should I watch it?” question that will be on your audience’s mind. Should they watch it because it will inspire them to act or because it will teach them something new?
6. Posting on Social Media
Once you produce your video you can post it to a variety od Social Media platforms including your Facebook and website. You can also setup your own FREE YouTube Channel with links on your existing Social Media platforms. Click here to view an example of Growing Squares Video Channel.
